One step forwards and two steps back

Back to the drawing board! I decided that we would need to take radical action, chopping out the rear deck drain channels, then the entire weedhatch!

We found that the diesel tank had rusted through, behind the weedhatch, so a large section of the tank got the chop.

I could now get at the narrow area around each side of the tank. I, once again, cleaned out the tank, finally getting at the last deposits in these, hard to get to, areas.

The water is scarily close to the opening! LOL! The things you do to save paying for drydock or slipway!

  1. Have you thought about introducing a bag tank, to sit behind the side portions of the existing tank, and behind a centre faceplate, bolted to the two side panels?
I have no idea of the relative costs (or suppliers), but in a boat intended to survive after your custody has ended, it seems like a worthwhile upgrade, ensuring you and future owners can access the areas that were blocked by the welded tank.

    1. Hi David,
Thanks for the suggestion, we bit the bullet this morning and cut 3 panels out of the diesel tank, only the centre panel was leaking (behind the weedhatch) but it was 'easier' to cut everything out and weld three complete new panels in.
This 'little' job is turning into a money pit! LOL!
